  • Love the untouched snow and the subdued colours especially the green of the door. How annoying not to get to the city - I hope you make it there soon both for your own enjoyment and because I like seeing your street photos :) Was the storm a recent one? It seems funny looking at snow when I'm sitting here in sandals and shorts :)

  • Love the colors in this. Such wonderful urban softness and quiet.

  • Cat – yes the storm was about a week ago. We are now considered a disaster area because so many trees are down (it was very heavy wet snow – about 30 inches of it) and some people’s roofs collapsed – many were without electricity for days.

They even had emergency places set up where people could sleep safely. I was lucky to still have electricity, but the phone and internet were out for a day. I have so many trees destroyed and half broken off and one huge tree limb hit one window but thank goodness did not break it. We have a huge clean up in front of us.

  • sounds pretty bad, but it makes for good photo ops, right? :)

  • Rian – no photo ops this time. A man in Central Park got killed by a snow covered branch falling on him. There were so many branches dangling and constant sounds of branches cracking that one did not feel safe walking about.

And the snow was such solid mush that if one’s foot sank in it it was hard to pull out. I am not one to risk life or limb for snow pictures.

  • yes best not to risk life and limb for snow photos! glad you didn't loose electricity - that's really no fun.

i love the falling snow in this and the complete sense of stillness. does convey what happens in an emergency snowstorm - everything stops.

as for the lack of flow in your photos - i feel the same with mine lately. when i feel i haven't put up good images for a few days i worry that people will not want to keep visiting my photoblog - but i'm more understanding with others - unevenness is no big deal. and i feel this snow image is really strong and delightful. just trying to say that it doesn't bother me to see a bit of this and a bit of that - i'm still happy to come here.

  • How awful - not fun at all especially for those people who had no electricity or who needed to sleep in an emergency place. And how terrible about the man in central park. I'm glad your window wasn't broken - but what a shame about your trees.

it's hard for anyone to post new stuff constantly, life gets in the way often and not always one is inspired or is in a place that is inspiring. But at least it makes the moments when one is inspired so memorable and good.
